Sign up for Class Dojo!!!

A letter is coming home in your child's folder today about signing up for Class Dojo.  It is this fantastic program that Ms. Pelkey and I use to award good behavior and when we see kiddos following the 4 Be's. The best part is that there is a Class Dojo Stories piece where we can easily post notes and pictures about classroom activities!  We hope you sign up!

Polar Express Day

Good Morning!
Our golden tickets that had to be punched before
we could board the train.
Today is our annual kindergarten Polar Express Day!  All kinders were asked to wear their pajamas to school today and came in to a BIG surprise!  Ms. Pelkey and I created our very own train in our classroom along with a cold winter scene outside of our train.  We will also be having popcorn from our school popcorn machine and hot cocoa that has been cooking in a crock pot all day.  Later in the day we will be receiving a special package from the North Pole with our very own bells.  If we can hear them ring then we BELIEVE in the spirit of Christmas!
Today is a day that I look forward to every year is about building community in our classroom and making memories, I hope that your kiddo has as much fun as I do today!
Love, Mrs. Griffith

Turkey Week Has Begun!

Hello Super K Families!

Whipped Cream paint
It has been a loooonnnng time since my last post! I figured that I would dust off this ol' blog and continue to show off some of the fun activities happening in Super K.
The ingredients for our fluffy,
whipped cream paint
Today starts Turkey Week for our kindergarten friends!  The next two days of school will involve a variety of turkey themed activities and stories leading up to our Thanksgiving break.
Our first activity of the day was pie math.  We started with the book All for Pie and Pie for All and then created our own pie equations.  What makes pie delicious? Whipped cream of course! To make our whipped cream for our pies we used fluffy, whipped cream paint made of white tempura paint, shaving cream, and glitter.
The reading activity of the day involved both reading AND writing skills!  Our Thankful for Turkey hats were complete with feathers, eyes, and a big orange beak.  The students wrote different things that they were thankful for on the feathers, then assembled the pieces into a hat.
Our day will be rounded out with turkey labeling and a turkey dance break!

Love,
Mrs. Griffith

Fire Drill & Letter O

Hello Super K Families!

Today was a busy day in Super K!  We started our day with our first fire drill.  We have practiced before, but this was our first drill with the alarm ringing throughout the school.  Our class did soooo well!  They lined up quickly and walked out to our safe meeting spot quietly.

Today was letter O for our ABC Boot Camp. The kiddos made an otter hat and learned all about the letter name and sound.  So far we have went from A-O, ask your kinder kiddo to tell you their letter names and sounds!

Bikers Against Bullies & PJ Day

Hello Super K Families!

Flash talking to us about diversity
We have had a busy week here in Super K!  Kiddos have been getting into the routine of kindergarten by learning expectations and new kindergarten jobs.  ABC Boot Camp has been underway and this week we have learned Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, and will continue with Kk tomorrow.  We have learned the letter names, sounds, and created silly projects to go with each.  Ask your kindergartner about their letter names and sounds!

The Voice star Jared Blake
Flash's Special Bikers Against Bullies Motorcycle
Yesterday we had the pleasure to attend an assembly hosted by Bikers Against Bullies.  Flash rode his special motorcycle into our gym and talked to us about being respectful and how diversity makes our school awesome.  His friend country star Jared Blake (he was on The Voice!) joined him to help teach us about not allowing anyone to take away our power and love ourselves. Jared Blake treated us to a private concert of his original songs and broke his guitar string jamming out with our school!  All of Lowell School also sang along to Jared's rendition of Justin Beiber's Love Yourself.  Bikers Against Bullies was so awesome that they donated Jared Blake posters and Bikers Against Bullies T-Shirts to EVERY Lowell student and staff member!  Look for shirts to be sent home next week.

Now for the most EXCITING news.....
Super K has been doing such a great job following the 4 Be's (Be Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind) that we have filled our Bobcat Buck jar!  Tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 15th will be our first Bobcat Reward...PAJAMA DAY!  Kiddos are encouraged to wear their PJs to school with school appropriate shoes.  (Please keep all stuffed animals and special toys at home.)
